The Sunday Briefing: Yann "yadio" Dion Among Sunday's Winners

Yann Dion

The one-year anniversary of Black Friday loomed large over many in the poker world on Sunday, but the show must go on for those players outside the U.S. Six players earned six-figures plus, and "jmc8609" topped the $200,000 mark with a victory in the Sunday Million. Dan "APowers1968" Colpoys and Yann "yadio" Dion also notched victories on Sunday.

PokerStars Sunday Million ($1M Guaranteed)

Buy-inEntrantsPrize Pool
$200+$157,289$1,457,800

The Sunday Million attracted 7,289 entrants and amassed a prize pool of $1,457,800. While the field was being whittled down to the final table, a few notable players made very deep runs but could not hang on — Steve "Stev0L_" Leonard (29th), Stefan "random_chu" Chew (27th), and Richard Toth (17th).

Michael "PapaGreggio" Hawkins and Rupert "ElRupert" Elder were able to hang on until the final table, before they were eliminated in eighth and fifth place finishes, respectively.

It came to a close at the 400,000/800,000/80,000 level when "MVPAT" (31,238,400) opened to 1,600,000 on the button. A call from "jmc8609" (41,651,600) in the big blind landed an 883 flop that "jmc8609" fired at immediately with 2,000,000. "MVPAT" popped it to 6,222,422, but that did not phase "jmc8609" who re-raised to 11,000,000. "MVPAT," holding Q9, then shoved all in, and "jmc8609" called with J8 for trips. Looking to dodge spades, "jmc8609" did just that as the K turn and 5 river brought the tournament to an end.
